BUSH FIRE ATTACK LEVELS (BAL)
Posted on November 14 2017
Recent changes have seen many properties in Western Australia deemed to be in an “At Risk” area for Bush Fires and now require a Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) Assessment.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN TO YOU
If your property is deemed as “At Risk” you will need to engage a qualified Assessor to carryout an assessment for you and determine the BAL.
The Assessor will make a determination of the BAL category you fall within, it may range from a Low Risk to a High Risk, they will certify it as one of the following; BAL-Low, BAL-12.5, BAL-19, BAL-29, BAL-40 BAL-FZ(flame zone).
Meeting the requirements in our Transportable Buildings and Park Homes can be relatively simply achieved with minimal additional expense for BAL-Low, BAL-12.5 and BAL-19 however BAL-29, BAL-40 & BAL-FZ will have a greater impact on the cost of construction.
If your property is shaded or partly shaded in the pink/purple haze you will most likely need to have it assessed.

USED BUILDINGS
The information we have received is that used buildings must now meet the requirements of the BAL, this is possible to achieve in some circumstances, however the extent of the modifications will depend on construction type and materials of each building and of course the BAL.
